Terry in the last few years has been teaching himself how to work with silver especially the art of engravong and carving silver.

Its starts with hours of drawing and designing until Terry is satisfied with design .For commissions, Terry has done what designing is needed to satisfy client.

“I have books and books of sketches and ideas and it is like playing an instrument, you have to keep your hand at it almost everyday to keep the design fluid and clear.”

Engraving is a process of pushing a sharp steep angled chisel at a certain angle to remove a consistent sliver of metal. Today most carvers and engravers use a air assisted device to help push graver in metal. Different shape gravers make  equivalent curves, hollows and angles.

While Terry does many animal theme pieces, newer abstract concepts also appeal to him.

“I  have such a long long way to go in my jewelry skills and I hope my eyesight will be up to it”

Terry pays homage to such silver masters as Haida artist Charle Edenshaw and Robert Davidson.

“Without such outfront work, new artists would be left that much poorer.”

European scroll work such as seen on older rifles and revolvers and other objects has been an interest the last few years
